The swim will be a .25 mile (18 lengths) swim in the pool at the The Athenian School.  T1 will be located just outside the pool where you will bag your swim gear (in a plastic bag with race # on it), put on your cycling gear and start up the mountain via the South Gate.  Bags with your race number are important in this event because it is a point to point to race.  After biking the 9.25 miles to T2 you will retrieve your numbered race bag (which you have turned into us during packet pick-up the day before the event), change into your run gear and start towards the peak on the final 2.25 miles of the race.  At the finish line transportation will shuttle you back down to T1 at The Athenian where your bike and all you race bags will be waiting for you in a secured area.  The following is detailed information about the bike and run course: Mount Diablo, south approach Statistics: Max. grade: 16% Main climb: Avg. grade: 5.4% (elev. gain/dist) Length: 11.28 miles (18.15 km) Elev. gain: 3220 feet (981 m) Entire profile: Avg. grade: 5.8% Length: 11.37 miles (18.29 km) Climb: 3365 feet (1026 m) Descent: 145 feet (44 m) Description: Mount Diablo is one of the most visible landmarks in the Bay Area. The climb itself is mostly moderate, with occasional steep turns and a final 150-yard stretch of straight 16% grade. The climb is mostly exposed, with breathtaking views, but does pass through several shaded groves with picnic areas and campgrounds.
